Paull Holme Farm Bees
At Paull Holme Farm, we believe in living alongside nature. Tucked away in a quiet corner of our garden is our small apiary, where we’ve been proudly keeping bees for over five years. What started as a fascinating hobby has grown into a vital part of our farm life, helping to pollinate our flowers and providing a delicious treat that we sell.
Our beekeeping year follows the rhythm of the East Yorkshire seasons. Our busy residents begin their hard work in early spring, but the real magic happens from June onwards. Each year, we are fortunate enough to harvest around 250lb of pure, golden honey. Because we operate on a small scale, our honey is “blossom-to-jar,” meaning it captures the unique flavours of the local wildflowers and flora surrounding the farm and the nearby Paull Holme Strays.
We describe ourselves as dedicated amateur beekeepers. Over the last five years, we’ve learned so much about the intricate lives of honey bees—from the way they communicate to how they manage the hive. Managing our hives is a labour of love, and we take great care to ensure our bees stay healthy and happy throughout the year.
There is nothing quite like the taste of local honey. You can find our very own Paull Holme Farm honey featured in our breakfast room, where we sell the odd jar for £5.
Beekeeping isn’t just about the honey; it’s also about supporting the local ecosystem. During the spring and summer months, honey bees naturally look to expand their colonies through “swarming”. While a cloud of bees can look a little daunting, it is actually a natural process.
As part of our commitment to the local area, we occasionally get called out to safely gather and rehome swarms. If you spot a honey bee swarm in Paull, Thorngumbald, Hedon, Keyingham, Patrington or the surrounding South Holderness villages, please do get in touch. We do our best to help relocate these incredible insects to a new, safe home where they can continue their vital work as pollinators.
